Overview
I got this project from a friend who works as an android developer and he got a request from a client who has a business (MSME) in the culinary field. He owns a food stall that is trending in 2021 and wants to take his business to a larger scale by opening another branch.
Here the client wants an App point of sales that functions as a cashier, stock controller and report for the android platform.
Design Progress
1. IDEATION
The first stage I had a conversation with my developer who happened to be this project from him. He explained the outline of how a point of sales app works. Then, we discussed how the form of the app and what can be developed from a point of sales. In other words, I try to match the design style with the developer’s ability first to avoid mistakes in the development process.
2. RESEARCH
About Point of sales
The first thing I want to find out more broadly is how a point of sales platform works and how a postal app can solve client problems.
Here I found that point of sales generally has several features including
- Cashier
- Inventory
- Events/Promotions/Discounts
- Active Order
- Selling History
- User Management
- Periodic Report
At this stage I conclude that the POS app solves the problem of its users with a cashier program that is integrated with other services so that it can optimize the course of business such as periodic reports to find out business developments to inventory for stock control.
Competitor Research
Previously, we had a brief conversation with a client about what Point of Sales platform reference he recommends and is currently using.
– Recommended → MOKA POS
– Currently use → Smart Cashier + MS Excel
Then later I did some research about Moka POS where some friends from the client also use the platform.
Why doesn’t the client just use MOKA POS directly?
– Client wants to manage his business for long term profit by creating his own POS platform.
– The client wants a system that is easier to develop and more exclusive
– The client wants the system to run fully on Android Mobile (tablet phone)
One of the things that I found from the client’s needs is that in registering items, Moka Pos must use the web and its mobile platform focuses more on the cashier program. In other words, full features do not run on mobile.
And on the other hand the flow of the app is very complex for a point of sales app where not all the features of this client are needed.
### 3. Interview with client
After doing some of the research above, I did qualitative research with direct interviews with clients. However, previously I have made a flow and sketch to validate which features are appropriate, need to be developed and added
2 of several crucial client questions related to this are as follows
– ***Question 1*** : How to make the cashier system easier and more effective with the promo system and?
– *Answer :*
– Create an integrated cashier system with the promo/event module and can create custom discounts in the form of discounts or percentages
– Create a custom charge for items that are not in the master inventory
– **Question 2** : How to make optimal stock control for products? especially fast expiry products
– *Answer*r :
– Create an inventory system where items and ingredients are linked together. Where this feature will have an On/off button because not all items sold must be connected to the ingredient. The goal is that users can choose to use simple or complex workflows
– Expired date system where each additional stock user will manually input the expiration date and notification date before the expiration date. Why manual?… because each product has a different time period and the user can estimate when to get the best notification to dispose of stock that is almost expired.
### 4. Create sitemap
After the previous research data has been validated by the client that all the flows and features are in accordance with their needs. Then I made a sitemap to facilitate the design and development process later. This will also be a reference for how many screens are made later into wireframes.
